In a significant development in the aftermath of the tragic Tempi train collision that claimed 57 lives on February 28, the general manager of Hellenic Railways’ (OSE) General Network Directorate was released without restrictive conditions on Wednesday.
This comes following his testimony before the investigating magistrate of Larissa, Thessaly, central Greece, where the harrowing accident occurred.
The man held the position of general manager from December 2019 to June 2020, and his testimony has now become an essential part of the ongoing investigation conducted by Larissa authorities. The investigation has already led to the criminal prosecution of five OSE managers.
On Tuesday, an executive of Greece’s rail network managing company OSE, who serves as the director of electro-mechanical systems and electrification, was physically assaulted outside a court in Larissa.
According to ERT, the attack involved seven to eight individuals and took place at the back of the courthouse. Local news outlets revealed that the attackers were relatives of victims from the fatal train collision that occurred on February 28.
Police swiftly intervened to rescue the executive, and he was immediately taken to the local University Hospital for first aid and medical attention.
The ongoing investigation by Larissa authorities is closely monitoring these developments as the nation grapples with the aftermath of the tragedy, seeking to bring justice and closure to the victims and their families.
