Oakleigh will host one of the biggest NPL derbies of the season this week, pitting the local Cannons against Avondale.
The Cannons are coming off an away defeat against the Magic and are keen to demonstrate their presence in the race for the title.
Meanwhile, Avondale are coming off an away win against St Albans, but their lacklustre performance nearly cost them points.
Let’s hope we will see a derby worthy of the two rivals’ standings.\
Altona Magic – South Melbourne
This week, it is South Melbourne’s turn to take on the Magic. In the previous matchday, it was the Cannons who suffered a 2-1 defeat in Altona.
Esteban Quintas and his players are well aware of the difficulties of this particular game, they are in a good psychological state after the team’s amazing performance and victory in Port Melbourne’s home and are expected to go out onto the field with the aim of leaving no room for reaction from the “Croatian” team.
The Argentinian coach is expected to field the same line-up seen against the Sharks in an attempt to maintain the high level of efficiency his players showed last Saturday.
Bentleigh Greens – Port Melbourne Sharks
The “blue and white” duel could not be missing from the menu of the 24th matchday. This weekend, Bentleigh is up against Port Melbourne.
The two rivals are going through completely different seasons.
The “Cypriots” are fighting to escape from the lower layers of the table in an attempt to ensure their stay in the division, while on the other hand, the “sharks” have presented a very beautiful and well-crafted group which has now established itself in the top six of the league.
It is an extremely interesting match whose outcome can drastically change the fate of the two gladiators.
Do not miss it!
Moreland City – Heidelberg United
This week, United will travel to Fawkner to take on Moreland, who are at the bottom of the standings and have been one of the season’s disappointments.
The “yellow and black” are on the rise and view this match as the perfect chance to get back to winning.
Even though Moreland may not be intimidating, their players are determined to put up a fight and United must remain focused and attentive if they are to leave with the three points of victory.
NPL2
Kingston, the surprise breakthrough of this year, will host Western United’s youngsters this weekend in an interesting NPL2 match.
Sitting in first place in the table, the hosts are determined to win the three points and continue their excellent season.
Northcote will face a difficult mission as they travel to play Dandenong City, who are just one point behind Kingston in the standings.
On Saturday afternoon, Werribee City will visit Brunswick City in another attempt by the “Greek” club to escape from the lower strata of the standings.
Both teams share 11th place in the table, giving the match a derby flavor.
NPL3
This weekend, Box Hill United will have the chance to acquire three more points when they host Ballarat in a crucial match. Pythagoras is striving to reach the top six of the table, making this match even more important.
State League
Yarraville will welcome Corio this week for Matchday 19 of the North West Group. Despite being a well-worked team, Corio cannot scare Doxa.
Malvern will have a relatively easy task this week, as they host Richmond in a match that gives them a chance to move closer to the top.
Aris’ mission seems more difficult, as they will face Casey Comets away from home.
