The 12th edition of the Zagori Mountain Running race took place in Greece, attracting more than 2,500 athletes from 35 countries and five continents.

Held in the picturesque region of Epirus and the Municipality of Zagori, the event featured thrilling races, including the new TeRA 60km and the ultimate Marathon+ 44km.

Participants encountered challenges amidst the stunning natural beauty of stone-built villages, Vikos Gorge, Skala Vradetou, and the Vikos-Aoos National Park.

The race showcased an impressive array of international talent, with athletes hailing from countries across the globe, such as the U.S.A., Mexico, Australia, Egypt, Germany, and Greece.

The event also supported Make-A-Wish Greece, fulfilling the wishes of children with serious illnesses.

Zagori Mountain Running Highlights:

  • The TeRA 60km race began on Saturday, July 22, at 4.30am (Greece time) from Tsepelovo village. Alexandros Tzoumakas won the men’s category, and Sophia Schnabl claimed victory in the women’s category.
  • The Marathon+ 44km race took place at Voidomatis Springs, Megalo Papigo, and Astrakas Refuge, with Dimitrios Eleftheriou and Christina Giazitzidou securing first place in their respective categories.
  • On Sunday, July 23, the Half Marathon 21km started from Tsepelovo, with Emmanuel Pourikas and Lemonia Panagiotou emerging as the winners in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
  • The Entry Race 10km followed, with George Kalapodis and Stavroula Papadopoulou claiming victory in the men’s and women’s categories.
  • Additionally, the ZAGORAKI Race gathered over 300 children aged 3 to 12 years old, running 1km with ZAGORI Natural Mineral Water as their hydration ally. The children enjoyed outdoor gifts and GREEN orangeades, with children’s books also raffled as part of the event.
