The revamped apodimoi.gov.gr platform is expected to go live in September according to a statement by Minister of Interior, Niki Kerameos.

“From now on, Greek citizens who are registered in the electoral rolls, wherever you live, you can vote without conditions, without restrictions,” Kerameos said.

The announcement said that the new legislation passed in the Greek Parliament will remove of all restrictions to voting in Greek elections and in the registration in the special electoral rolls of Greek citizens living abroad.

In her statement, Kerameos called it a “historic privilege” to announce the new regulation to those who retain the right to vote.

“Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis elevated this issue as a strategic priority, and it was translated into action with the first bill passed by the new government of New Democracy.”

“Greek citizens who are registered in the electoral rolls, wherever you live, can vote without conditions, without restrictions. By registering on the online platform of the Ministry of Interior and without any documentation, you can exercise your right to vote from abroad,” Kerameos said.

She said that the passage of the bill extending the voting rights to all Greek citizens living abroad by 208 members of parliament “sends a resounding message that the Homeland is making it easier for you to exercise your basic constitutional right – your vote – from wherever you are.”

“For our Democracy, this historic obligation is being fulfilled in a way that strengthens even more the ties that unite Greek citizens abroad with the motherland, and enhances your efforts to act as ambassadors of our country abroad, supporting our national interests,” concluded Kerameos.
