Oakleigh’s Sts Anargiri Greek Language Centre, commenced the third term with a milestone as it celebrated 60 years of dedicated service to the community and its significant role in enriching Australia’s multicultural landscape.

The event highlighted the center’s invaluable efforts in preserving the Christian Orthodox faith, Greek language, and culture.

During the commemorative gathering, students were given a unique opportunity to delve into the lives and legacies of the Patron Saints of their Church.

Through a compelling address, the significance of the holy icon and relics of St Anargyroi was deeply revered, a cherished practice within the Christian Orthodox faith.

In addition to the spiritual aspect, the event embraced entertainment with a captivating shadow theatre performance featuring Karagiozis.

The theatre group from the Greek Community skillfully brought the characters to life, providing an interactive and enchanting experience that resonated with the audience, evoking much laughter and delight.

The celebration served as a unifying moment for the school community, instilling a sense of togetherness as they honoured the past, celebrated the present, and looked forward to the future with optimism.

Anticipation is already building for next year’s Week of the Anargyroi, where the school community will come together once more to commemorate and cherish their shared heritage.

As the Sts Anargiri Greek Language Centre continues to play a pivotal role in promoting Greek culture and values in Australia, the milestone of 60 years stands as a testament to their enduring commitment and enduring legacy.
