The Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia (GOCSA) and Ridleyton Greek Home for the Aged are joining hands to honour and appreciate aged care employees ahead of Aged Care Employee Day on Monday, 7 August.

Aged Care Employee Day is a national day of recognition for the more than 360,000 people who care for and support approximately 1.3 million older Australians receiving aged care services.

The significance of these dedicated workers cannot be overstated, as they provide essential care, compassion, and support to older Australians in need, GOCSA President, Peter Gardiakos, said expressing gratitude for the love, eefort and respect shown by the aged care staff towards the elders in both the Greek and wider communities.

“Thank you for the love and support you give to those within our care; the compassion and dedication you bring, and the dignity and respect you show to the elders of our Greek and the wider community. We are proud of the care and support you, and aged care employees across Australia, deliver daily. To our nurses, our carers, our allied health, our lifestyle staff, our administration staff and our maintenance staff – we say thank you for being the magic that makes the Ridleyton Greek Home for the Aged family so special.”

He acknowledged the challenging circumstances faced by aged care workers during the pandemic, where families and friends were unable to visit their loved ones for prolonged periods. During these trying times, the carers, nurses, and other staff members played a crucial role in bridging the gap and becoming the vital connection for vulnerable older Australians.

With Aged Care Employee Day approaching, GOCSA encourages the community to express their gratitude to the nurses, personal care workers, chefs, cleaners, gardeners, and administrative staff when visiting their loved ones in aged care facilities.

Thuy Phan, Director of Clinical Services at Ridleyton Greek Home for the Aged, praised the staff for their unwavering commitment and the joy they bring to the residents’ lives.

“To all our staff, thank you for your incredible ongoing love and dedication. Such a difference when you go above and beyond to put a smile on our residents’ faces,” Ms Phan said.
