Several Greek organisations are gearing up for an exciting Children’s Week 2023 as they await the outcomes of grant applications submitted for the event.
With a focus on promoting the rights of children to relax, play, and engage in activities they enjoy, these initiatives aim to bring joy, education, and cultural pride to the younger members of the community.
Organisations across the Greek community have shown their dedication to celebrating Children’s Week by submitting grant applications for Small Grants of $1000.
The events are scheduled to take place between Saturday, 21 October, and Sunday, 29 October, in adherence to the theme for this year.
Among the submitted initiatives is MGTAV’s plan for a Greek Movie Night, which is proposed to be hosted at Lido cinema.
Additionally, 3ZZZ Radio is all set to take their outside broadcast van to visit several schools, including VSL and Lalor, engaging students during the special week with six school visits.
The Cretans are organising an Open Day event, featuring Greek Costumes, Greek Dance lessons, and Traditional Greek Musical Instruments.
Meanwhile, Pan Epirotics has plans to conduct Karagiozi and Kalamatiano performances in public libraries, offering three dance lessons and three Karagiozi plays during Greek Story Time sessions.
The aim is to provide accessible options for primary-aged school children.
The Greek Australian Cultural League is embarking on a creative journey with their ‘Kyklopes’ program, offering art, craft, science, and music activities themed around “The Eyes Have It – Cyclops.” Exploring the makeup of the eye and the iconic song “The Eye of the Tiger,” this program is sure to captivate young minds.
GOCMV has also planned a day of open workshops dedicated to Greek national identity, set to include storytelling, cooking, dancing, and construction; a celebration that coincides with the occasion of 28 October.
Participation in all these events is expected to be free, in alignment with Children’s Week Guidelines.
Additionally, all advertising materials will prominently feature ‘Children’s Week’ promotional material, spreading awareness and excitement about the upcoming celebrations.
