12-year-old Gezel Bardossi hit the stage on Monday’s episode of The Voice, leaving all four coaches stunned with her unique performance.

Greek on her mother’s side, Bardossi sang Aretha Franklin’s Chain of Fools during the second round of the blind auditions.

The first coach she drew the attention of was Jason Derulo, who just after a few seconds, pressed his buzzer. Hea said her voice “had maturity behind it” and is “way beyond her years”.

He was followed by the remaining coaches, Jessica Mauboy, Rita Ora and Guy Sebastian, with each one of them shocked upon seeing a young girl sing with such voice.

After finishing her song, young Gezel received a standing ovation from the coaches and the crowd as her proud parents watched on backstage.

Having to choose between all coaches, she decided on Ora as her mentor, who said “never seen anything like this in my whole life”.

“I think you’re going to be loved by the whole country and the whole world,” she said.

Gezel was actually below the age requirement but the show bent the rules to allow her to compete.

Being of young age, the show meant she achieved many firsts.

Her and mother Nikki spoke with Kidspot about the audition and the journey leading to it.

“She’d never used a microphone before, so I had to ask the staff to teach her,” Nikki said.

“Even wearing in-ear speakers was new for her. They didn’t have any that were small enough for her so they had to take them in for her as they were too big. Also, she’d never even harmonised with other people.”

Gezel reflected on her childhood, remembering times from when she was around three.

“I used to go outside of my house in an Elsa dress and a blonde wig and sing ‘Let it Go’ and all my neighbours could hear me,” she said.

Now in the early days on the show, the youngster has her eyes on the future.

“I’d love more chances to perform. I have a lot to learn. I want to be an international solo artist as well as an actor.”

Her message for other kids and teenagers who want to pursue their dreams?

“Just try… I am a big believer in ‘what’s yours will never pass you.”
