The Greek Super League is back this weekend, and the teams will no doubt be looking to start with a bang, especially Olympiacos as they prepare to meet promoted side Panserraikos.

The tension is high for Greece’s big clubs, with them all managing the emotional highs and lows of European qualification, and Olympiacos will no doubt be looking to dominate their opponents in the opening round of the league when they meet at “Georgios Karaiskakis” Stadium on Monday morning (AEST).

Panserraikos will be praying that Olympiacos’ recent European match with Genk will have sapped some of their energy as they hope to bag even a single point to kickstart their campaign.

PAOK, meanwhile, will battle Asteras Tripolis at “Toumba” Stadium as they too look to keep their momentum going after successfully making the Europa Conference League play-offs.

Their crosstown rivals, Aris, travel to face OFI and they will have to pick themselves up after disappointingly dropping out of Europe midweek, a fact which the Cretans will hope gives them an edge to somehow get a victory.

The season kicks off with Volos hosting Lamia on Saturday morning, with each side aiming for winning starts to their campaigns.

Giannina clashes with the other promoted side, Kifisias, and they will look to stamp their authority as a regular top division side by downing their opponents.

Kifisias, on the other hand, will be eager to show their credentials in what will be a challenging season in which survival alone would be considered a success.

The two best teams from last season, AEK and Panathinaikos, will both not play this weekend due to their European commitments.

Enosi’s match with Panetolikos was postponed because of their second leg against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League third qualifying round on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, the league decided to postpone Panathinaikos’ contest with Atromitos to give them extra rest time to prepare for SC Braga in the Champions League play-offs, the hope being that this will help them beat the Portuguese side and make the group stage.

It is a unique opening to a league campaign and most spectators will no doubt hope it proves as enthralling as last season, where the championship was not decided until the final matchday.
