The two best teams from last season, AEK and Panathinaikos, are set to open their league campaigns this weekend as they both seek to build momentum ahead of their upcoming Champions League deciders.

Both Enosi and the “Trifylli” are scheduled to play their first league games this term on Sunday morning (AEST), meeting with Panserraikos and Volos respectively in the Greek Super League’s second round.

The Serres-based club will be striving for even a draw to get their points tally up and running.

The Piraeus giants will be in great spirits after their midweek European triumph over FK Cukaricki, though the Peristeriotes will be hoping to pounce on them potentially being fatigued from the extra game.

PAOK battles Kifisia at “Toumba” Stadium and they too will be keen to build on the positive result they procured in Europe midweek, downing Hearts of Midlothian.

The recently promoted outfit will have to muster all their strength to try and secure points from this contest, their one potential advantage being that they are more well-rested that the Thessaloniki giants who had to travel to Scotland for their European fixture.

Aris travels away to face Lamia and the “yellow-blacks” will be desperate to record their maiden win after disappointingly losing 3-2 to OFI last matchday.

Panetolikos opens their season with a clash against Giannina at home on Saturday morning, with the Agrinio club hoping for all three points.
