Oakleigh Grammar revealed its “ambitious project” to construct a state-of-the-art community pool during its annual Business Breakfast event, last Thursday.
The announcement, made by Principal Mark Robertson, was met with enthusiasm from business leaders, students, faculty members, and notable figures in attendance.
The event brought together around 150 individuals including business people, students, and respected dignitaries.
Principal Mark Robertson took the opportunity to share the news of Oakleigh Grammar’s forthcoming indoor swimming pool, set to be erected just a stone’s throw away from the school campus.
The proposed 25-metre indoor pool, designed in collaboration with Studio 4 architects, aims to enhance the school’s existing sports and recreational facilities.
“This development marks a significant milestone for our institution,” Principal Robertson said.
“The indoor swimming pool not only augments our athletic offerings but also provides students with a platform to cultivate water safety and swimming proficiency. Moreover, the local community stands to gain from a ‘learn to swim’ institution situated in the heart of our culturally diverse and vibrant precinct.”
The architectural plans for the pool are currently in the hands of Studio 4, with a comprehensive tendering process for the build in its nascent stages. The commencement of construction is anticipated to take place in 2024.
In light of the venture, Oakleigh Grammar is actively inviting proposals for the naming rights sponsorship, providing a unique opportunity for community engagement and recognition.
Distinguished figures attending the annual Business Breakfast event, included the Federal Member for Chisholm, Dr Carina Garland MP; Theo Zographos, an Oakleigh Grammar alumnus and the Councillor for Oakleigh ward in the City of Monash; Tony Tsourdalakis, Chairman of the Victorian Greek National Day; and former Federal Member for Higgins, Dr Katie Allen.
The gathering also featured keynote addresses from Sarah Davies AM, CEO of the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, and Andrew Cornwall, CEO of Ventura Buses, who shared invaluable insights into their professional journeys, replete with challenges and triumphs.
Through sponsorships and ticket sales during the event $18,000 will be allocated towards the acquisition of student-centric equipment.
In addition, Vic Rajah, Oakleigh Grammar Business Network Convenor, declared that a portion of the funds would be dedicated to “establishing an Oakleigh Grammar Hall of Fame, with the induction of exceptional alumni scheduled for 2024”.
