Renowned broadcaster Rena Frangioudaki OAM will be reflecting on her life in radio in a lecture, part of a series run by the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria and La Trobe University.
The event will be held on Wednesday September 13, 7pm, at the Greek Centre, on Lonsdale Street, and it titled Rena Frangioudaki: A life in Greek radio broadcasting.
The discussion will be co-ordinated by radio producer Panos Apostolou, and is organised by the university’s Greek Studies Program of the Department of Languages and Cultures and the Dardalis Archives of the Hellenic Diaspora.
Apostolou, who produces the Greek Language Program on SBS Radio and formerly worked for Neos Kosmos, was a co-worker of Frangioudaki for four years at various Greek media news outlets.

Frangioudaki moved to Australia in 1966 from Crete, Greece and would become one of the first producers of Australia’s multilingual radio stations.
In a career spanning more than 50 years, she worked as a producer, ournalist, coordinator of Greek language programs, presenter of cultural, social, youth and children’s radio shows and news anchor woman.
She was one of the founders of SBS Television and served as the Director of Greek Language programs.
The ‘Greek voice’ of Melbourne as she’s known, taught a generation of Greek Australians how to speak and understand Greek.
In 2010, Rena was awarded an Order of the Medal of Australia for her service to the Greek community of Victoria.
She gave back to the community in other ways too, as a long-time volunteer in community organisations, balancing it all as a single mother.
