AGAPI Care, an organisation dedicated to providing care and support to individuals with disabilities, celebrated the opening of its new office in Preston last Saturday, September 9.
The opening coincided with AGAPI Care’s Annual Radiothon, which raised over $115,000 to support the organisation’s mission.
Mary Gakopoulos, CEO of AGAPI Care, shared stories on the history of AGAPI Care, its journey, and the impact of its work in the community.
“Our journey has been one of resilience and determination, together, we have paved the way for brighter futures and shattered barriers that once held back possibilities.
“The event emphasised AGAPI Care’s commitment to its values and mission. Attendees explored the new facility and shared their stories. AGAPI Care’s Annual Radiothon was in full swing, with music, entertainment, and stories.

The event was broadcast on 3XY Radio Hellas and featured the Greek community’s renowned broadcaster, Rena Frangioudakis, as the host. The $115,000 raised will play a vital role in AGAPI Care’s expansion plans, including constructing two new facilities: Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Short-Term Accommodation and Assistance (STAA).
These facilities will enable AGAPI Care to extend its reach and provide tailored care to even more clients, fostering personal development and independence. In a media release, AGAPI Care extended its heartfelt appreciation to Top Gun Collision, the event’s primary sponsor, donors and community partners.
“Their compassion and belief in AGAPI Care’s mission have catalysed significant positive change, ensuring vital support for people with disabilities in the community,” said the release. The Radiothon featured a line-up of guest speakers who lent their insights and support to AGAPI Care’s cause.
Among these speakers were: Arthur Evriniadis; President of AGAPI Care; Ged Kearney, the Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care; Kostas Kolohythas; Former President of AGAPI Care; Paul Orfanos, National Community Engagement Manager at Bendigo Bank; Tony Tsourdalakis, Victorian Inter-communities & Parish Council of the Greek Orthodox of Australia; Kathy Constantinou, Treasurer of AGAPI Care.
