In observance of Dementia Action Week, PRONIA extends an invitation to Melbourne’s Greek community for a free, informative event scheduled for Sunday, September 24.
Attendees will have the opportunity to gain valuable insights in both Greek and English into the latest advancements in dementia research, early detection, prevention, and treatment.
Professor Bianca Brijnath, the Director of Social Gerontology at the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI), will share her expertise on these critical topics.
A dedicated Q&A session will follow the presentations diving into dementia having become a prevailing concern for many families within the Greek Australian community.
Dementia has now surpassed coronary heart disease as the primary cause of health-related challenges among Australians aged 65 and over also having a high reaching impact not only on patients, but their their families, and caregivers can be profoundly distressing, compounding the challenges faced by both those affected by the condition and their dedicated caregivers.
Furthermore, PRONIA’s Dementia Support Services team will be on hand to provide information about innovative programs tailored to assist both caregivers of dementia patients and individuals displaying early signs of dementia.
These programs encompass in-person and phone-based caregiver support groups, comprehensive case support services for both caregivers and dementia patients, as well as center-based day respite programs for those exhibiting early signs of dementia.
In addition to the informative sessions, the program will include an afternoon tea and a live musical performance by the renowned Melbourne artist, Anthea Sidiropoulos, who will serenade attendees with classic Greek melodies and songs.
