VCE students and teachers from the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) hosted the Honourable Justice Emilios Kyrou at their school last Saturday.

The invitation was in recognition of Justice Kyrou’s book, “Call me Emilio,” which the students studied in preparation for their upcoming oral exams at the start of the 4th term.

Year 12 students have been exploring the migrant experience of Greeks, drawing from various sources, including Justice Kyrou’s book.

“Call me Emilio” offers a personal reflection on the memories and migration experiences of the author during the challenging initial period of adaptation and efforts to integrate into Australian society.

Justice Kyrou met with the students at the Greek Centre on Saturday, September 16, 2023, to share his migrant experience.

He shed light on aspects of Greek migration to Australia. He addressed a series of questions that resonated with the students’ interests. His speech, coupled with his approach to the young audience, was greatly appreciated. The meeting served as a valuable source of information for the student’s research and a significant educational experience.

The GCM extended its gratitude to Justice Emilios Kyrou for his contribution to students’ understanding of the migrant experience and for fostering a sense of inspiration among the young minds at the school.
