In a collaborative effort between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Citizen Protection, Mobile Passport Application Units are being established to assist Greek citizens residing in remote areas abroad.
To strengthen this partnership and further enhance consular services for Greeks worldwide, Mr Kotsiras met with Mr Oikonomou at the Ministry of Civil Protection today.
For the first time, the Greek State is introducing the option of deploying Mobile Units to collect passport application documents from Greek citizens living in remote areas, whether in countries where our Embassies are accredited or within the consular jurisdiction of our Consular Authorities.
“Our primary goal is to meet the needs of Greeks residing abroad, even in the most distant locales,” stressed Mr Kotsiras added.
“With the creation of a dedicated section on gov.gr for Greeks living abroad, we are now launching an additional initiative to enhance consular services for the Diaspora. This practical step demonstrates our commitment to creating a modern and citizen-friendly state for all Greeks, regardless of their global location.”
These Mobile Units will be operated by staff from the respective Consular Authority and equipped with the necessary tools. Their deployment will be contingent upon the recommendation of the head of the relevant Consular Authority, approval from the Central Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and concurrent notification to the Ministry of Citizen Protection’s relevant department.
Mr Oikonomou said that “The introduction of Mobile Units for collecting passport application documents streamlines services for our fellow citizens living in remote areas abroad, thereby improving the quality of assistance offered by the Greek State. Our policies prioritise the Greek Diaspora, implementing practices that enhance their daily lives.”
During their meeting, the Deputy Minister and Minister of Civil Protection also discussed strategies for leveraging digital technology to further improve consular services and expedite assistance to Greeks living abroad.
