On Monday 9 October (Greece time), the first 81 Greeks who were in Israel arrived at the airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” after having safely escaped the ongoing hostilities in the Middle Eastern country.

They all expressed their relief to return home, and provided their personal accounts of the horrors that they had a first-had experience with since Saturday.

According to ERT, reporter Alexandros Memos, this particular group of our compatriots had travelled to Israel to visit the Holy Land. They were expected to arrive in Athens on Sunday, but the outbreak of their war delayed their return, which caused great concern to their loved ones. Upon arrival, they highlighted how terrible the situation in Israel is at the moment, as well as how horrified they were to be suddenly so close to the atrocities committed by the terrorist group Hamas.

During the following days, a great number of Greeks who will be leaving Israel to escape the horrors of the conflict. is expected to land at Athens’ International Airport, Eleftherios Venizelos. The Greek authorities in both Greek and Cyprus have cautioned strongly against unnecessary traveling to Israel for as long as uncertainty continues due to the ongoing – and escalating – conflict.
