The Pan-Hellenic Women’s Federation of Australia is throwing their weight behind the research efforts of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, focusing on advanced cancer therapies with a charity morning tea event themed “Raising Awareness for Cancer”.
Attendees will have the opportunity to make donations in the form of cash, checks, or direct deposits into a special bank account to support research on a disease that literally or virtually affects every Australian.
According to data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, it is estimated that in 2023, approximately 165,000 cases of cancer will be diagnosed in Australia, with about 51,000 individuals losing their lives due to the disease.
“Across the entire nation, healthcare professionals, philanthropic organisations, and various institutions tirelessly work to care for and support those affected by cancer. Researchers are actively exploring new approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and overall well-being for individuals impacted by the disease. Many within our community have been touched by cancer. Our event is connected to the Peter MacCallum Hospital,” stated the President of the Federation, Georgina Papafotiou.
The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, often referred to as Peter Mac, stands among the world’s top oncology research institutes, cancer treatment centres, and oncologist training facilities, situated in Melbourne.
It is also the sole healthcare service in Australia exclusively dedicated to the care of cancer patients, employing over 3,200 staff members, including more than 750 laboratory and clinical researchers, who are focused on delivering improved therapies, enhanced care, and potential cures for cancer.
The event will take place on Thursday, November 2, from 10am to 1pm at the Keilor Community Hub (704B Old Calder Hwy, Keilor).
