The Hellenic Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Western Australia (HACCI WA) has welcomed a new committee, spearheaded by Dr Elena Limnios, the current president.

This new team comprises Vice President Athanasios Gaitatzis, Secretary Katerina Andronis, Treasurer Stelios Eleftheriou, and committee members Michael Daniels, Antiopi Orkopoulos, Voula Terzoudi, Sofia Chouli, John Konstantopoulos, and Tas Mitaros.

Their collective expertise spans various fields, from governance and strategy to legal matters, healthcare, engineering, IT, and business management.

Dr Limnios took the opportunity to reflect on HACCI WA’s achievements over the past year, highlighting the launch of the HACCI National Federation (HNF), a pivotal move aimed at unifying the voice of the Hellenic business community across Australia.

“We’re thrilled to bring on board a dynamic team of professionals with diverse skill sets. This committee is well-positioned to drive HACCI WA into a future filled with promise and potential,” Dr Limnios said.

“The formation of the HNF is a landmark achievement that amplifies the voice of the Hellenic business community in Australia. We are committed to using this unified platform to advocate for our members on key issues, from voting rights for the diaspora to fiscal policy.”

In the pipeline are initiatives designed to simplify voting for overseas members, engage in discussions about the double taxation treaty, and foster remote work collaborations between Australia and Greece.

The ceremony was attended by HACCI WA’s Patron, Consul of Greece in Perth, Georgia Karasiotou, who presented the Limnios Family Academic Excellence Award.

The award went to Poppu Lulu Bell, a 2022 graduate from the Presbyterian Ladies’ College, who achieved a remarkable 99.95 ATAR.

Furthermore, the MG Kailis Leadership Award was given to Emanuel Radici and Elijah Kanganas, recognising their leadership and academic accomplishments.

Following the award ceremony, Professor Theo Evgeniou, an authority on artificial intelligence from INSEAD, who boasts 25 years of experience in machine learning, including a decade at MIT, shared insights into the benefits and challenges of AI adoption in the business world.

He offered comprehensive guidance for successful AI implementation, grounded in real-world case studies also offering a Q&A session exploring the ethical considerations surrounding AI.

Discussions ranged from the impact of AI-generated content on social media to its potential to influence public opinions and the evolving relationship between humans and automation.

“Professor Evgeniou’s presentation on AI was not just informative but was arguably one of the most compelling talks we’ve hosted in recent years,” Dr Limnios added.

“The feedback from our members has been overwhelmingly positive, underscoring the relevance and importance of understanding AI in today’s business landscape.”
