In a recent collaborative effort, the Greek Orthodox Community of Box Hill, along with the staff and students of the Greek Language and Culture School, came together to organise a fundraising event that has garnered considerable support.

Donations from students, parents, and members of the Greek Community of Box Hill have exceeded $5,000, and the funds collected are intended for providing assistance to a school in Greece that has been affected by either devastating fires or catastrophic floods.

To break down the financials, the school itself raised approximately $1,300. Senior members of the Box Hill Community contributed around $700, while the ladies’ and young ladies’ section of the community donated approximately $500.

Community members also played a significant role by contributing over $2,500, reflecting the collective commitment to this cause.

“This initiative is a tangible expression of solidarity, aimed at assisting fellow citizens facing challenging circumstances while instilling the value of empathy in the students,” School Principal Despina Athanasaki, President Nikos Farlekas and Chaplain Kostas Zotos said in a statement.

“The community extends its appreciation to everyone who supported and contributed to this fundraising effort, recognizing that collective action can make a meaningful difference and provide hope to those in need.”
