Greek Australian audiences will soon have the opportunity to see some of Greece’s most celebrated artists take to the stage across Australia.
Starting next month, Glykeria will embark on a musical journey to Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide together with celebrated artist Melina Aslanidou, offering three much anticipated concerts.
Glykeria, one of Greece’s most successful singers, made her debut in 1974 on the show “Na I Efkairia” at the Lito tavern in Plaka.
Her early performances featured songs by renowned composers such as Hatzidakis, Theodorakis, and Loizos.
Raised in a household immersed in the rich traditions of Asia Minor, she developed an early appreciation for rebetika and smyrneika music.
Her name first appeared in Greek discography in 1977, and in 1980, she released her debut solo album, “Ta Smyrneika.”
Since then Glykeria’s unique voice has left an indelible mark on the Greek music scene, the Middle East and elsewhere in the world, boasting a remarkable career spanning more than 45 years.
Along the way, she has collaborated with some of Greece’s most prominent artists, including Giorgos Dalaras, Nikos Papazoglou, Eleni Vitali, Haris Alexiou, and many others. Her iconic performances of classics like “Pentohiliara,” “Piga Se Magisses,” “O,ti Agapo Einai Diko Sou,” “Dekapentavgoustos,” and her renditions of smyrneika, rebetika, and dimotika have solidified her status as one of Greece’s greatest musical treasures.
Joining Glykeria will be Melina Aslanidou, known for hits such as “To Lathos,” “De Vazeis Myalo,” and “Den Einai Agapi Auto”.
The famous X-Factor judge embarked on her 23-year career in 2000 as a member of the band “Oi Apenanti.”
The band released two albums, one of which featured a captivating cover of “Ti Sou ‘Kana Kai Pineis,” propelling them to wider recognition.
Since 2003, Melina Aslanidou has forged a successful solo path, boasting a string of commercial successes and collaborations with some of Greece’s most prominent musical figures, including Yiannis Parios and Natasa Theodoridou.

Peggy Zina and Kostas Karafotis
Audiences can also look forward to experiencing performances by Peggy Zina and Kostas Karafotis set to take to the stage in November for three concerts in Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney. Collectively, the inseparable duo have amassed over two decades of contributions to the music scene, featuring numerous hit songs and collaborations.
Peggy Zina’s musical journey commenced in 1995, and she has since released an array of chart-topping songs, including “Eimai Kala,” “Matono,” “Dioxe Tin Pikra,” “Noima,” “Trekse,” and many more. Her career included collaborations with some of the industry’s most iconic names such as Lefteris Pantazis, Notis Sfakianakis, Stelios Rokkos, and Sakis Rouvas, as well as Kostas Karafotis at the outset of his career in 2004.
Karafotis gained wider recognition through his participation in the musical reality talent show Fame Story 2 and has evolved into a successful laika singer with tracks like “Iha Kapote Mia Agapi,” “De Tha Mino,” and “Lipamai.”

Christos Dantis
Also confirmed for Aussie shores in 2024 is crowd favourite, Christos Dantis.
Dantis, set to perform in Australia in January next year, started his musical journey as a teenager, making his first live performance debut in 1986-87.
He first hit the charts while also becoming a sex-symbol following the release of his video-clip collaboration with Greek new-wave and pop-artist Polina, titled “Push-ups”.
Dantis later released his first personal album called Dahtilika Apotypomata in 1990 with music and lyrics written by Giannis Karalis which became platinum.
Karalis and Dantis became close friends and kept collaborating for two decades.

In 1991 Dantis released the golden album Aman which was also released in four European countries with remixes. At the same time the video clips from the album were played on MTV and MCM accompanied by a TV special offering live performances and an interview with Steve Blame the presenter of MTV.
Dantis’ biggest hit in Greece came in 1999 with the release of the album “To Palio Mou Palto” with the namesake song becoming a classic.
Some of his most notable hits include “Prodosia’ and “Maya Maya.”
Dantis has collaborated with legendary Greek artists such as Dimitris Mitropanos, Costas Tournas, Paschalis Terzis, and many others, while in most recent years he has been sharing his passion for blues, and rock releasing several remixes and covers of classic American and English hits.
