The double-headed eagle of the North is hoping to produce a big upset in its visit to the dangerous “Georgios Karaiskakis” Stadium, challenging an in-form Olympiacos outfit that is striving to taste silverware this season.
The Piraeus giants host PAOK on Monday morning (AEDT) in the Greek Super League’s tenth round, with the aim of earning a mighty triumph to remain at the top of the table with Panathinaikos.
It is unclear at the time of writing whether the match will be behind closed doors, with the decision of the “red-whites'” appeal against their harsh punishment following the firecracker incident in the derby with the “Trifylli” to be made on Friday.
Whatever the outcome, “Karaiskakis” still represents a fortress that would require a major effort from the Thessaloniki side to record maximum points.
PAOK will surely be up for the challenge as they hope to move past their disappointing loss to AEK last weekend.
Panathinaikos will have their eyes on the result as they aim to create some distance between themselves and their eternal enemies, though they will first have to defeat a tough Lamia side away on Sunday morning.
The Fthiotida side (currently fifth) have not lost at “Athanasios Diakos” ground in their last eight league games, putting them in as good spirits as possible to prevent the Greens from bagging a win.
AEK also goes on the road as they prepare to battle Kifisia in a bid to earn their fourth straight success in the league, with Enosi also in close proximity with the league leaders (only two points behind).
Aris faces Atromitos at “Kleanthis Vikelidis” Stadium on Monday morning as they hope to continue their improved form of late by securing a third consecutive win.
Giannina clashes with Volos at home in a bottom-of-the-table fixture that looms as vital for each side.
The Epirutans have now gone nine matches without a win, including a cup loss to the Magnesia club, thus making this a crucial game for them to finally end their torrid form as well as get some revenge.

For Volos, a victory here would boost their confidence even more after finally sealing their maiden league triumph last round.
Panetolikos and Asteras Tripolis go head-to-head in another important contest for both teams who are going through relatively sluggish starts so far.
The hosting Agrinio outfit are probably the most in need of the three points, having won just once and sitting one point off last place, though the Arcadians equally need to overturn their bad streak of performances that has seen them earn one draw and three losses in their last four outings.
The round closes on Tuesday morning with an encounter between the surprisingly well-performing pair of Panserraikos and OFI.
The Serres club, the home side for this match, will be eager to get back to winning ways after two losses to Aris and Panathinaikos.
Likewise, OFI will hope to secure a victory to bounce back from an understandable defeat to Olympiacos last matchday.
