The Hellenic Initiative (THI) Australia will host yet another live webinar for its Digital Conversation Series on Monday, 4 December, featuring Greece’s Minister of Interior, Niki Kerameus as a special guest.

Kerameus will share the priorities of her policymaking, her views on the not-for-profit landscape in Greece, her involvement with the inspirational charity Desmos, focusing on how the Greek Diaspora can continue to support Greece from afar and remain as engaged as possible with Greek affairs.

Kerameus is also expected to discuss the matter of the Diaspora vote, which was secured for the first time during the past Hellenic elections.

Notably, the legal provisions regarding the Diaspora vote have loosened even further after ND’s summer victory, so the current challenge for the Ministry of the Interior is to communicate these changes to boost participation numbers in the forthcoming elections.

The Minister is also expected to elaborate on key reforms to the public service sector, which will benefit all visiting and doing business in Greece in the years to come.

Kerameus has been a member of the Hellenic Parliament with New Democracy since January 2015, and she was re-elected both in 2019 and 2023.

Before being appointed as Minister of the Interior, she served as Minister for Education and Religious Affairs during Prime Minister Mitsotakis’ first term, from 2019 and 2023.

During this time, she oversaw unprecedented reforms, such as updating the curriculum of all school levels, introducing digital platforms in education, establishing foreign-language courses in Greek universities, and boosting the education budget. She also led the way for changes to the higher education system in Greece and new partnerships with higher education institutions in the USA, such as Yale, Harvard, Columbia, and others.
