The arrest of a 42-year-old man, who repeatedly committed several abusive acts against two victims by taking advantage of their disability – while broadcasting his horrific actions directly on social media – was made by officers of the Department of Anti-Racist Violence of the Security Directorate of Attica. The 42-year-old was immediately accused of causing bodily harm, insulting, pimping, crimes committed with racist characteristics, as well as violation of the weapons law.
In particular, the 42-year-old, repeatedly abused two young people by taking advantage of their disability, while broadcasting his horrific acts on social media. This abusive behaviour consisted of verbal abuse, physical harm, such as being hit with tasers, and being forced into sexual acts. The arrested man had created an account on a social networking platform for the reproduction of pictorial material with registered users.
The perpetrator tortured his victims – both of whom faced mental issues– as he inflicted severe bodily harm, and even electrified them with taser guns. The 42-year-old man was taken to the prosecutor to face charges, while the Department of Anti-Racist Violence has taken the necessary steps to take care of the victims of racist abuse.
The perpetrator’s identity has not yet been revealed by the authorities. It must be noted that although Greece has seen a significant decline in crime rates – especially in the post-pandemic years – cybercrime is one of the biggest challenges that the Greek authorities are facing. There are few robberies, murders, and all kinds of violent crimes occurring these days in Greece, but there has been a rise in crimes committed on – or through – the internet.
The Greek authorities have set up a specific procedure, so that citizens can report safely and quickly cybercrimes, which can be submitted to the authorities online, in real time.
