Spiro Pappas has been re-elected to serve on the Football Australia Board until 2026 while Chris Nikou has officially stepped down as its Chair after five years.

Football Australia had its 20th Annual General Meeting on Wednesday morning at Allianz Stadium in Sydney and via videoconference, wherein they filled two Elected Director positions for terms expiring at the 2026 AGM.

Mr Pappas, who has served on the Board since June 2022, was one of the two people to fill these positions alongside Sam Ciccarello.

Following the AGM, the Board convened to unanimously elect a new Chair, Mr Anter Isaac, to replace the outgoing Mr Chris Nikou.

Mr Nikou had previously announced his intention to step down in September, having served in the position since November 2018 and been on the FA Board since October 2014.

The Greek-Australian reflected on his five-year tenure as Chair as “both an honour and a tremendous responsibility”.

“The progress we have made, and the resilience displayed by our football community during a period of dynamic change, fills me with immense pride,” he said.

“With the sport poised for continued growth, I am confident that under Anter’s leadership, Football Australia will scale new heights and continue to make significant strides in the world of football.”

Mr. Anter Isaac expressed deep gratitude to Mr Nikou and the Board members upon his election as new Chair.

“Firstly, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the outgoing Chair, Chris Nikou, for his exceptional leadership and dedication to Australian football. His contribution has been invaluable,” Mr Isaac.

“I am also profoundly grateful to my fellow Board Members for their confidence in me and I look forward to working with them.”
