Heidelberg United Football Club were one of four Greek based clubs that proceeded further in consideration for the National Second Tier competition commencing in 2025, however they will not be included at this stage.

In a statement posted by the club, United reveal that they would not proceed with finalising a Request for Proposal (RFP) due to some concerns those arose during the latest phase.

The foundation member of National Soccer League said they “identified issues with some of the participation requirements that remain unaddressed.”

“We welcome the ongoing discussions with Football Australia and sincerely hope that our concerns and those of a few other clubs are considered in the coming months.

“We maintain a strong belief that Heidelberg United Football Club deserves a place in a National 2nd Tier Competition, and we are committed to working collaboratively towards a positive outcome for our inclusion always considering the financial viability of the Club as a priority.”

Alexandros also welcomed Football Australia’s recent announcement of the competition and congratulated the eight clubs selected to participate.

Two of these clubs are South Melbourne and Sydney Olympic, who both hope to see the NST represent not just a renaissance for their clubs but the entire sport as a whole.

An additional two-four clubs are reportedly planned to join the eight selected so far but it remains to be seen if Heidelberg will opt to stay out or submit an application.
