Greek industrial group Mytilineos Energy and Metals has approved a ten-year deal with Australian broadband wholesaler NBN Co to source green electricity from its 120-MW (megawatt) solar park in Queensland.

Mytilineos has committed to providing 59 GWH (gigawatt hours) per annum to NBN from its Munna Creek park, equating to more than 20 per cent of its total output.

The deal, which is a power purchase agreement (PPA), was announced on Friday and is set to come into effect in December 2025 and is another step in back in the Australian company’s goal for 100% renewables use by 2025.

The deal is another which aids the construction of Mytilineos’ photovoltaic (PV) park in Munna Creek.

The site will be equipped with around 255,000 panels that will be capable of producing electricity for 41,000 homes, with commercial operations expected to launch in July 2025.

Apart from NBN, Australian telecom Telstra Corp Ltd has also agreed a deal to take power from the park, with a commitment to buy half of the output.

This is the third such PPA NBN has made in line with their renewable energy direction, agreeing deals to 90 GWh from each of the 420-MW Macarthur wind farm in Victoria and the 75-MW Wyalong solar park in New South Wales.
