King Charles III made waves at COP28 on Friday by sporting a tie that bore a pattern resembling the Greek flag.
This caught attention given the ongoing dispute between the UK government and Athens regarding the Parthenon Sculptures.
Online sleuths noticed the king’s choice of neckwear in photos from the climate summit in Dubai, leading to speculation that it might have been a subtle message aimed at Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who was also present at the event.

Sunak defended his abrupt decision to cancel talks with Kyriakos Mitsotakis, citing the Greek leader’s alleged “grandstanding” in the disagreement over the ancient sculptures.
The UK placed blame on Mitsotakis, referencing his statements in a BBC interview regarding Greek claims to the Parthenon Marbles exhibited in the British Museum.
Greek media seized upon these images, with the daily newspaper Kathimerini stating, “Although King Charles hasn’t taken a definitive stance, many analysts view this action as indirect support.”
Some individuals highlighted that Charles, whose father had Greek heritage, had worn the same tie the previous week while welcoming the president of South Korea, predating the onset of the dispute.
