Shocking images of an Australian YouTuber wandering around Omonia at night, including a 17-minute video posted on the platform on 27 November, have already garnered over 540,000 views.

Spanian, a YouTuber and musician, captures moments from his travels around the globe in many of his videos.

In the video’s introduction, YouTuber Spanian faces the camera, revealing that he hails from Sydney and spent a significant portion of his youth in and out of prisons. In this specific video series, he explores seedy neighborhoods in various countries, shedding light on what unfolds in them when night falls.

Spanian’s YouTube account showcases videos of dodgy and crime-ridden neighbourhoods. In his Greek video, he expresses shock at the state of the streets around Omonia Square when the sun sets, dubbing it “the worst street with drug addicts” he has ever encountered.

Throughout his tour of Omonia, Spanian witnesses drug addicts injecting in the street, people lying on pavements, others rummaging through rubbish, and what he describes as “hundreds of brothels.” His videos also feature drunks swearing at passersby, illegal immigrants, and graffiti. He notes, with profound sadness, that many of the drug users are elderly.

According to Spanian, tourists are typically advised to steer clear of Omonia at night when visiting Athens. He emphasises that it represents a completely different world compared to other areas of the city center. While acknowledging Exarchia’s association with anarchists, he considers it generally safe and friendly, contrary to its reputation as a dangerous neighborhood.

As Spanian navigates Omonia, his shock and concern escalate, exposing syringes on the asphalt and groups of people openly using drugs on the streets and sidewalks.
