Experience a vibrant fusion of Greek melodies and contemporary rhythms brought to life at the Corner Hotel in Richmond with the Musik-i Festival.

The inaugural music event will be blending Greek melodies with contemporary rhythms and harmonies, brought to life through four local Hellenic based Australian music acts.

It will be a showcase of the emerging Greek Alternative Music scene here in Melbourne.

In between the sets and after the show, local DJ’s will drop tunes and songs, ranging in different genres and periods.

Cats and the Canary

Australia’s first and only Greek swing band, Cats and the Canary pays a unique tribute to some of Greece’s most prolific composers, blending the melodies of Theodorakis, Tsitsanis, Chiotis and Hadjidakis. On they’ll add in the odd tsifteteli or traditional smyrniotiko with swing, jazz, and even Latin sounds.

The band has risen to widespread acclaim from both audiences and local media, having performed at a number of festivals such as Brunswick Music Festival and Antipodes Festival, as well as sold-out shows in Melbourne and Sydney.

Heirs of Apollo

Imagine Greek folk instruments combined with hard rock drums and electric guitars, that is what you get with Heirs of Apollo.

It is an unlikely combination of two musical worlds.

This band are reimagining Greek folk music, creating a fusion of traditional tunes with rock music that’s never been heard before.

Erinaki

A Melbourne-based duo consisting of Stavroula Thomopoulos and Konstantinos Kalamaras, Erinaki has been performing and composing their own music since 2020.

The duo has since recorded and released their debut album, performed extensively around Australia, and has now also expanded to a seven-piece band.

Their music fuses traditional Greek Music with a modern twist not bound by one genre.

Having written original songs in Greek, the music draws inspiration from the sounds of Greek music, mostly folk and rebetika, but with a more contemporary twist.

Artemis

Venture back to the 60s and 70s – the golden era of Greek music, arts and fashion with Artemis.

The Athenian will transport listeners to the smoky terrazzo-floored clubs of downtown Athens, paying tribute to her home city.

She reimagines some of the most iconic Greek love songs with a twist – jazz.

Joining Artemis is musical director Andrew Patterson.
