Running now in its 39th year, Carols by Candlelight, the Greek Archdiocese popular Christmas event will be hosted on Sunday 17 December at St John’s College.

Hundreds of Greek Australians, and members of the broader community join the Carols evening every year to enjoy a special concert presented by various Archdiocese choirs, including performances by students of Greek schools.

This year’s event will also be featuring a tribute to respected composer and conductor Stelios Tsiolas, who passed in late November.

Mr Tsiolas had garnered accolades in Greece, Cyprus and Australia for his work. His career highlights included working as Assistant Conductor to Mikis Theodorakis for the presentation of the oratorio Axion Esti at the Perth Festival with the West Australia Symphony Orchestra, and conducting a choir from Melbourne at the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Athens in 2004.

Carols by Candlelight kicks off at 5pm with a Christmas fete. There will be activities available for families, including a jumping castle for the children, play areas, food stalls, and an opportunity for a photo with Santa.

The Carols Concert starts at 7pm followed by a fireworks display at 9.30pm.

The outdoor event is set to take place on Sunday 17 December, 5.30 – 9.30pm, at St John’s College, 1 Blanch St Preston, Melbourne.
