Christmas and the new year are slowly approaching, bringing the start of the NPL championships closer and closer.

The men’s league in New South Wales is set to kick off on February 16, with Manly United taking on St. George in the opening game of the season.

Sydney Olympic, representing the Greek Community in the first division of the NPL NSW, will begin their season on Saturday, February 17, against Hills United.

It is worth noting that the Greek club has agreed to play a pre-season friendly match against South Melbourne on January 13 at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, expected to be a celebration of “Blue and White” football.

APIA Leichhardt, the 2023 champions, will enter the competition on Sunday, February 18, facing a tough Blacktown City away, who had an excellent season last year, finishing third in the table.

The other two games that stand out on the schedule are the ones between St George City and Rockdale Ilinden, and between Marconi Stallions and Wollongong Wolves.

The Football NSW Referee Academy has announced the entry of eleven new referees for the 2024 season

Football NSW has announced the eleven new up and coming faces that will feature in the 2024 Referees Academy following an extensive trial process that saw 140 referees from across the state vie for a coveted spot.

The aim of the academy is to create referees who will pursue a career in local and national championships, but why not also aim to participate in major international competitions?

The only representative of the Greek community in the academy at this time is the young James Makris, who, although he is studying at Macquarie University as a civil engineer, dreams of having a great career and refereeing great football matches.

Pre-season friendly match between South Melbourne and Kingston City

On Saturday, December 16th, Kingston City faced off against South Melbourne in a friendly game full of blue and white colours.

The coaches of both teams were able to draw important conclusions two months before the start of the 2024 season, as the match was played without the presence of fans.

Despite having several new faces on the field, the hosts played beautiful football and emerged victorious with a score of 4-1.

After the match, coach Esteban Quintas of the home team expressed extreme satisfaction and vowed that his team would work tirelessly to reclaim their position at the top of Victorian football this year.
