United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected to visit Greece in the upcoming days.

According to the report by Kathimerini‘s Washington correspondent Lena Argiri, Blinken will meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Saturday.

This comes as the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the diplomat will visit Turkey on the same day to discuss bilateral and regional matters.

Greece has concerns over Turkish actions in the Aegean, so it is likely Blinken will address that as well as the ongoing saga of Turkey’s bid to join the EU.

In his trip to Ankara, it is speculated that he may discuss the ear in Ukraine, the Kurdish conflict and the F-16 fighter jet saga.

Last time the American spoke with Mitsotakis in November, the two discussed the developments in the Middle East and the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

It was there that the two agreed on stressing the need to secure humanitarian pauses, with the Greek prime minister emphasising the importance of establishing a continuous flow of much-needed humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip.

Government sources reported that Greek and US discussion were constructive, whereas with Turkey, not so much.

Blinken will now face the task of navigating the complex ties between Greece and Turkey, and it remains to be seen what agreements are made.
