Travelling to Greece from the United States has just become a lot cheaper and easier, with Norse Atlantic Airways announcing a new direct service to Athens from New York.
The Norwegian airline will commence the new service from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport in the upcoming summer season.
Flights are said to operate five times a week beginning from May 30, through to October 26, and will have a duration of 9 hours and 35 minutes.
While the low-cost airline already operates services between New York and Athens, they will much quicker now, with current flights taking 18 hours with a stopover at London Gatwick airport.
The carrier said the new service will meet “surging demand” and provide a gateway to boost cultural and economic ties between the two countries.
“This launch underscores our commitment to meeting the evolving travel needs of our passengers,” said CEO and founder of Norse Atlantic Airways Bjorn Tore Larsen, in a announcement statement.
“We believe this route will not only cater to the demand for travel to Greece but will also create opportunities for cultural exchange and business collaborations between these two vibrant destinations.”
Tickets are being promoted as starting at $249 USD (AU$371.492), however one-way fares during the summer can range from $528 (AU$787.742) to $1039 (AU$1550.122) according to Travel+Leisure.
Norse already operates flights to New York from London, Berlin, Rome, Paris and Oslo.
The airline also points out that the flight can be used as a connection point for other flights to the Greek islands, places like Crete, Milos, Mykonos and Santorini.
