Aris has earned bragging rights over the city of Thessaloniki after downing bitter enemies PAOK, a result that has had major implications over the ladder as Panathinaikos pounced on their title rivals’ dropped points to restore their place as league leaders.

The “yellow-blacks” earned a 2-1 triumph against PAOK at “Kleanthis Vikelidis” Stadium on Monday morning (AEDT) in the Greek Super League’s 17th round, allowing Panathinaikos to reclaim top spot from the “black-whites”.

Aris found their first straight after the half time break with winger Shapi Suleymanov guiding the ball into the back of the net (46′), which was followed up by his teammate Kike Saverio’s effort to give them a two-goal lead (59′).

PAOK got one back through defender Baba Rahman in the 75th minute but they were ultimately unable to grab any further goals.

AEK secured a major 1-2 away success over Olympiacos at “Georgios Karaiskakis” ground in the other huge derby fixture of the round, climbing into second place on the ladder in the process.

Enosi opened the scoring via a corner header from striker Levi Garcia in the 32nd minute before forward Steven Zuber made it two with a finish from close range following a different corner soon after (38′).

Olympiacos halved the deficit before the break with a goal from winger Giorgios Masouras (44′) but they were unable to grab another as AEK came away with all three points.

Substitute striker Andraz Sporar powered Panathinaikos to a 2-1 victory against Panetolikos at “Leoforos” Stadium to put the “Trifylli” back in first place.

The Greens went ahead early into the second period after Sporar headed in left back Juankar’s cross from very close range (51′) and the Slovenian grabbed a second later on with a well-placed finish in the bottom left corner (89′).

The goal proved to be pivotal for the “Trifylli” as Panetolikos winger Levan Shengelia soon found the back of the net with a powerful effort that went in off the underside of the crossbar (90+2′).

Lamia fought their way to a 1-1 away draw against OFI on Tuesday morning, extending the Cretans’ winless run to ten matches.

The Fthiotida outfit found the back of the net just three minutes in, thanks to a strike from striker Mathias Acuna, but OFI managed to cancel it out via a penalty from Juan Neira (38′).

A brace from forward Karol Angielski guided Atromitos to a 1-2 away win over Volos on Monday morning, resigning the Magnesia side to their third straight loss as a result.

Angielski put the Peristeriotes in front in the 25th minute after heading the ball in following a corner before he doubled their lead with a successful penalty (59′).

Volos striker Panagiotis Moraitis gave the hosts something to celebrate right at the death, heading the ball in from a cross in what proved the final moment of the match (90+7′).

Panserraikos managed to rescue a point late in their 1-1 stalemate with Kifisia to preserve their place above the relegation zone.

The travellers managed to go ahead late into the first half via a strike from winger Thievy Bifouma (43′), though substitute forward Jefte Betancor intervened with a crucial header from a cross on his club debut to earn a point for Panserraikos.

Giannina finally snapped their winless streak with a 2-1 triumph over Asteras Tripolis, their first win since the opening round of the season.

Striker Juan Bautista Miritello gave the Arcadians the lead 18 minutes in before Giannina turned it around with two goals in quick succession, first from midfielder Giorgos Pamlidis (32′) and then through winger Juan Baptiste Leo (36′).

This proved sufficient for Giannina to record their first success in 16 league games, a fact that will bring much joy to the Epirutans.

The final match of the round will take place on Tuesday morning between OFI and Lamia.
