Aris and Olympiacos are lined up to go head-to-head in a major battle just days after they each went the distance in their Greek Cup fixtures, with the Thessaloniki side hoping to record a massive win over the “red-whites”.

The “yellow-blacks” take on the Piraeus giants at “Kleanthis Vikelidis” Stadium on Monday morning (AEDT) in the Greek Super League’s 19th round with each in opposite moods following the Greek Cup midweek matches.

Aris is on cloud nine after beating AEK in a penalty shoot-out while Olympiacos was left shattered after losing on penalties to their archenemy, Panathinaikos.

There is no doubt that the “red-whites” will want to put the game behind them by defeating their Thessaloniki opponents, who themselves will hope to pounce on the Piraeus club’s emotional devastation to score a major win.

Panathinaikos faces Asteras Tripolis at “Leoforos” Stadium and the match will by no means prove easy based on the Arcadians’ recent form, which has seen them rise into sixth place.

League leaders PAOK are looking to down Volos away, with the “black-whites” keen to earn a strong victory to preserve their status at the top of the table.

AEK challenges Atromitos away with the goal of pushing past their Cup exit by sealing an important league win, particularly given their desire to close the two-point gap with PAOK and Panathinaikos that currently separates them.

Lamia hosts Kifisia at “Athanasios Diakos” ground in the round opener on Sunday morning, and the Fthiotida side will be craving maximum points as they seek to continue their push for sixth position (currently occupied by Asteras Tripolis).

Giannina is hoping for a triumph against Panserraikos at home as they set their sights on getting out of the relegation zone.

OFI competes with Panetolikos at home in a vital clash they will be desperate to win, having now gone 11 league matches without a win.

For the Agrinio side, this game represents a huge chance to potentially create some distance from their relegation rivals as many of them face higher-placed teams.
