The season for Antigoni Drisbioti kicked off on Saturday in Australia.
The top Greek racewalker competed in a meet in Canberra, securing the fifth position in the 10,000m racewalk with a time of 44:39.83.
Drisbioti engaged in a training run ahead of her upcoming participation in the national championship of Australia in the 20km racewalk in a few days.
Since the end of 2023, Drisbioti has been in Australia, mainly in Melbourne, where, just like last year, she undergoes the crucial stage of her preparation alongside her coach Brent Vallance.
The winner of Saturday’s race was the second-placed in the world in Budapest, Jemima Montag (Australia), with a time of 43:14.48, followed by Arenas (Colombia) with 43:27.48, and Bereta (France) with 43:35.52.
“I had a day when I came down from the mountain, felt tight, and didn’t have the freshness I would have liked. I stayed without a group early on, so later I didn’t have athletes beside me to pull me. I can’t say I’m satisfied with the race in Canberra; however, my preparation so far is going well,” said Drisbioti regarding her performance.
The “bronze” champion in the world championship in Budapest in the 35km racewalk added that she will seek good results both in the European Championships in Rome and the Olympic Games this summer.
