Mainland Greece is expected to witness a notable decline in temperatures from Monday to Wednesday, coupled with local snowfall in its mountainous regions. Specifically in Attica, snowfall is forecasted to intensify from Monday afternoon (Greece time) in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, extending to lower-altitude regions by evening.

Projected cumulative snowfall depths in eastern mainland areas until noon on Tuesday, calculated by the meteo.gr/National Observatory of Athens numerical weather prediction model.

In addition, localised snowfall is anticipated in the mountainous regions of Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly, central Sterea Ellada, the Peloponnese, Evia, and Crete.

Mainland areas should prepare for local frost during morning and evening hours, especially in the eastern regions where a significant temperature decrease is expected.

Moreover, increased cloud cover and localised showers are predicted for eastern and southern regions, accompanied by sporadic thunderstorms and northeast winds reaching speeds of up to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea.

The Risk Assessment Committee of the Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Ministry convene at noon on Sunday, followed by an Interministerial Committee meeting in order to prepare for interruptions in infrastructure due to frost.
