In a recent court appearance, Vasilis Vergulis firmly declared his innocence against charges of murdering his wife and attempting to murder his daughter in their Campbelltown home last July.
The Adelaide man, now identified following the lifting of an identity suppression, faces serious charges, including murder, attempted murder, and causing serious harm.
During the court proceedings, Magistrate John Wells read out the charges against Vergulis, stating, “It’s alleged you murdered Aleksandra Vergulis.”
To this, Vergulis replied, “I am not guilty.”
The accusations further asserted that he attempted to murder his daughter Daniela on the same day, at the same place.
Again, he staunchly declared his innocence, saying, “I am not guilty.”
Additionally, Vergulis pleaded not guilty to causing serious harm to his daughter.
Daniela Vergulis, who attended the Adelaide Magistrates Court to witness her father’s pleas, appeared visibly upset as she left the courtroom, with a supporter offering comfort by placing an arm around her.
Despite the emotional courtroom scene, Vergulis has been committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court.
The case is poised to proceed further, as the accused maintains his plea of innocence against the grave charges lodged against him.
