Oakleigh Cannons FC will face Kingston City on Monday night, in a rescheduled Greek Community Cup Finals match.

The match was set to take place today, Sunday, but organisers announced its postponement due to extreme heat weather conditions.

A heatwave sweeping through south-eastern states saw Melbourne reaching 37C in the afternoon making this the hottest day of the summer so far.

The finale is expected with high hopes from fans of both teams as they prepare to go head-to-head for the championship title and the ultimate prize. Oakleigh Cannons managed an uninterrupted win streak throughout the tournament, while Kingston City FC secured their spot in the final after a captivating showdown against Malvern City FC.

“I’m thrilled and look forward to playing in the 2024 Greek Community Cup final. I’m incredibly proud of our boys for digging deep to secure the win. Congratulations to the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) for organising such a wonderful event,” said Kon Tangalakis, the head coach of Kingston FC.

Michael Karamitos, the GCM Vice President, reflected on the tournament, stating, “The level of play has been exceptional, and the turnout from our community has been truly remarkable. I would like to thank all the individuals who have come out and supported the tournament.

Expressing his elation at the success of the tournament, Dr. Jim Bossinakis, the GCM Vice President said that “The energy and passion we’ve seen throughout the 2024 Greek Community Cup is nothing short of inspiring.”

“The sportsmanship displayed by the teams embodies the spirit of our community. The Greek Community Cup not only showcases the talent and dedication of our youth but also serves as a platform for fostering connections and strengthening bonds within our community,” he added.
