The two Double-headed eagles of Greek football are preparing for the latest edition in their rivalry, with the stakes incredibly high as each finds themselves intensely linked to this season’s premiership race.

PAOK hosts AEK at “Toumba” Stadium on Monday morning (AEDT) in the Greek Super League’s 22nd round, and the stage is set for both clubs to make a statement regarding their title ambitions.

A victory for the Thessaloniki giants would take them five points out of reach of Enosi, an attractive proposition as they also await a visit from Olympiacos next weekend.

For AEK, three points would put them into first place which would be a major confidence boost for the team as they have not been top of the league all season.

Aris travels to play bottom-placed Giannina in a must-win contest for the Thessaloniki outfit, who are battling to ensure their position in fifth come the end of the regular season.

The two teams challenging Aris in Lamia and Asteras Tripolis are set for their own massive encounter at “Athanasios Diakos” Stadium on Monday morning, with the Fthiotida outfit hoping for their fourth straight success in order to consolidate their placement in the play-offs spots.

Kifisia (13th) is hoping to earn a home win against Volos (11th) and ascend past the Magnesia side on the ladder, with both clubs firmly in the mix of the relegation scrap.

Panetolikos, another team near the bottom of the table, is striving for maximum points when they challenge Atromitos at home on Sunday morning.

The Peristeriotes will be motivated to perform after three losses on the bounce has left them seven points adrift of sixth place, the spot they are still holding out hope can be theirs by the time the regular season concludes.
