In the aftermath of ferocious storms sweeping across Victoria, an estimated half a million homes find themselves without power.
The onslaught of wild weather, characterised by golf-ball-sized hail, flash flooding, and severe winds, wreaked havoc on both regional areas and metropolitan Melbourne.
The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has confirmed a “significant power system event” occurred during the storms, leading to major failures in electrical transmission lines and power generators.
Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio, after meeting with the AEMO chief executive, took to social media to address the situation, acknowledging the widespread power outages and assuring the public that efforts are underway to restore power.

Amidst the chaos, metropolitan train services have been severely impacted, with dozens of train lines suspended and others experiencing significant delays due to the adverse weather conditions.
The aftermath of the storms has resulted in considerable traffic disruptions, particularly along Springvale Road between Nunawading and Mulgrave.
Traffic lights along the road are out of commission, with flooding and fallen branches adding to the challenges.
Police presence is visible at intersections, directing traffic to ensure safety amidst the huge delays.
