Giannis Antetokounmpo fans are in for a treat this week, as Sunday (12pm Monday) will see the Greek Freak suit up for the NBA all-star game, and then the following day, his new documentary is set to release.
Giannis: The Marvelous Journey is an intimate portrait of the global superstar and one of the NBA’s most dominating performers.
Directed by Kristen Lappas and produced by the Antetokounmpo’s Improbable Media, the Amazon Prime Video documentary is a 1 hour 48-minute viewing on the two-time league MVP who led the Milwaukee Bucks to a championship in 2021.
It is the first production of the basketballer’s producing brand that was co-founded with ESPN basketball analyst and former basketball star Jay Williams.
A trailer was released on Wednesday for the documentary, which features personal interviews with Giannis and members of his family.
“People might say I’m one of the best players in the NBA right now, but I don’t see it, I don’t feel it,” Antetokounmpo says in the beginning of the trailer.
“I’m just a hard worker that’s trying to survive because I’m scared of losing all this.”

This isn’t the first time the 29-year-olds story has been told on screen, as Disney released a dramatic film titled Rise, while Amazon had also previously released Ugo: A Homecoming Story, which captured his return trip to Nigeria with his mother, exploring his ancestral roots.
His interest in entertainment has also extended beyond his own story as Giannis was an executive producer for the Emmy Award-winning documentary The Flagmakers.
