Celebrating two decades, the Greek Festival of Sydney presents the Greek Fest @ Darling Harbour, one of Australia’s significant cultural events over the past 42 years. It promises a weekend filled with music, dance, culinary delights, and a vibrant celebration of Greek heritage.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour, the festivities will commence on the weekend of February 24 and 25. Expect the park to pulsate with the rhythm of traditional and modern Greek and Cypriot dance performances, enchanting magic shows, face-painting sessions, and the debut of the first rap competition in Greek.

Headlining the musical program are the Greek-Australian band IHO NYX, who will grace the stage on Saturday, February 24 at 7pm, followed by international Greek vocalist Melina Aslanidou, captivating audiences on Sunday, February 25 at 7pm.

Melina Aslanidou is one of the most successful singers of her generation. Renowned for her remarkable vocal range and unique songs, Aslanidou has carved a niche for herself, seamlessly fusing the traditions of Greek folk, progressive music, and pop. Her performance at Tumbalong Park will captivate audiences, adding a touch of musical excellence to the festivities.

Foodies will delight in a culinary journey through Greek cuisine, with various traditional and contemporary delicacies. From souvlakia to loukoumades, there’s something to tantalise every palate.

Beyond the entertainment and gastronomic delights, the festival provides a platform for community engagement. Visitors can peruse stalls showcasing Greek products and engage with cultural advocates, fostering a deeper appreciation for Greek heritage within Australia’s multicultural society.

The official opening ceremony on Sunday, February 25, at 6:00 pm will be graced by esteemed guests, including the consul general of Greece in Sydney, Ioannis Mallikourtis, federal minister for Indigenous Affairs, Linda Burney, the premier of NSW, Chris Minns, and others, marking a momentous occasion in the festival’s history.

Harry Danalis, president of the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW, expressed his pride and excitement, emphasising the “festival’s role in fostering cultural exchange and community cohesion.”

Festival chair Nia Karteris highlighted the event’s significance and said, “Greek Fest @ Darling Harbour is not merely a festival; it’s a testament to our community’s resilience and vitality. As we celebrate 20 years, we aim to empower our youth and showcase the richness of Greek culture in Australia’s diverse tapestry.”
