Philanthropic group Team Agapes, recently hosted a successful International Women’s Day event at Elwood Bathers, raising $10,000 for the domestic violence charity Impact.

The event, attended by mainly Greek participants, was a celebration of women’s empowerment and solidarity.

The event featured guest speakers Anastasia Bakas from Gogglebox, Food For Thought Networks’s Varvara Athanasiou-Iouannou, and Kathy Kaplan, who spoke about their experiences and insights into the importance of supporting women affected by domestic violence.

The event also honoured Mrs Kaplan, who was awarded the Order of Australia in 2011 for her work in domestic violence prevention.

Eleni Michailidis, President of Team Agapes, highlighted the significance of the event in light of the alarming statistics of domestic violence in Australia.

She stressed the importance of supporting organisations like Impact, which provide crucial services to women and children fleeing abusive situations.

Among the attendees were Sue Diamataris, Mircina Maya, and Ann Bendouli, key members of Team Agapes who played instrumental roles in organising the event.

The fundraiser was a huge success, with $10,000 raised to support Impact’s “Bags of Love” initiative, which provides essential items to women and children escaping domestic violence.

The event received overwhelming support from the community, showcasing the power of solidarity and support among women.
