St Monica’s College, Epping united the different generations with an initiative at their school aimed at bringing together grandchildren and grandparents at their premises.

The school organised their first term initiative ‘Grandparents and Special Friends Day’ for Wednesday and Thursday, March 13 and 14, affording Year 7 students a chance to invite their grandparents to visit the College and see them in that environment.

This year’s event included a musical performance and speeches from the Year 7s, as well as a tour of the school led by the students and a morning tea.

St Monica’s College, Epping Principal, Mr Brian Hanley OAM, described the event as a special highlight for the pupils, who are still fresh from the transition to High School.

“Year 7 is an exciting time as the students progress from primary to secondary education and there is genuine excitement as they have the opportunity to welcome their grandparents, or special friends, on campus,” Mr Hanley said.

The School Principal noted that, as part of the day, students gift a present of their making to their grandparents, while also taking them into their classrooms, introducing them to their teachers, and inspecting the general College facilities.
