Greece’s Alternate Interior Minister Theodoros Livanios will be in Melbourne next week to present on a range of matters involving the Greek diaspora.

On Thursday March 21, the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) will welcome Livanios, with the event, organised in collaboration with the Greek Consulate to Victoria, open to all.

Topics presented by the minister will range across a number of matters that affect the Greek diaspora with particular focus on the upcoming elections and postal vote.

Livanios’ visit is poised to strengthen ties between Greece and the Greeks of Australia, developing a deeper understanding of key issues affecting the Greek community.

Lord Mayor of Melbourne Sally Cap will also be in attendance to welcome the former Deputy Minister to the Greek Prime Minister, a role Livanios served in from January to August 2021.

Since then he was the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance until May of last year and before both, served as Deputy Minister of the Interior from 2019-2021, where he was responsible for local government and electoral issues.

From the election of Kyriakos Mitsotakis as the President of the New Democracy party, in 2016, he has been the party’s Director of Information Technology and head of the digital campaign of the May 2019 European elections as well as the July 2019 national elections.

Until 2015 he was the Secretary General of the Ministry of Administrative Reform and E-Government and from 2011 to 2014 served as the Secretary General of the Municipality of Athens.

In 2010, he was a Special Adviser to the Ministry of Interior, Decentralization and E-Government, and was a key part of the preparation in implementing the Kallikratis program and the law on electoral expenditure for the local elections.

For over a decade, he has worked in IT and market research companies in the private sector, as a computer programmer, database administrator and data research analyst.
