In a match spanning two days, Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 11) was defeated by Denis Shapovalov (No. 126) with 2-0 sets (6-2, 6-4), leading to Tsitsipas’ early exit from the Miami Open.
The match began on Friday but was halted after just three games due to rain. Play resumed on Saturday (Miami time), with Shapovalov continuing his dominance by swiftly securing the first set 6-2.
The second set proved more challenging, with Tsitsipas fighting off eight break points in his second service game, lasting 18 minutes. Despite Tsitsipas’ efforts to level the score to 4-4, Shapovalov remained unfazed taking a 5-4 lead, again.
With the match on serve, Shapovalov closed out the game flawlessly to secure what has been dubbed to be his most remarkable victory of the season.
