Turkish citizens claim the top spot for the highest average number of sexual partners in their lifetime, reveals a recent study on global sexual habits by World Population Review.
While the average Turk has engaged intimately with more than 14 individuals, following closely, Australians rank second on the list with an average of at least 13 sexual partners throughout their lives.
Greece lands in the 15th position, with an average of 10 sexual partners per Greek.
“The average number of sexual partners can vary significantly from country to country, influenced by cultural norms,” states the research.
Turkey’s leading position might surprise many, considering its predominantly Muslim population and conservative societal views on sex and relationships.
However, the study unveils some unexpected findings.
Countries with perceived liberal attitudes towards sex, such as Brazil and France, surprisingly rank lower.
Brazilians report an average of nine sexual partners, placing them in 25th position. France ranks 29th, with its citizens averaging 8.1 sexual partners.
Close to Australia, New Zealand takes third place, followed by Iceland and South Africa.
The United States stands at 13th place, with Americans and Canadians both reporting an average of 10.7 sexual partners throughout their lives.
However, the number varies widely across states due to religious differences.
For example, residents of Louisiana report an average of 15.7 sexual partners, while residents of Utah, predominantly belonging to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, report an average of 2.6.
Age of first intercourse also influences the number of sexual partners. In the US, the average age of losing virginity is 17.
Greece ranks slightly lower, with Greeks averaging 10.6 sexual partners, similar to Thailand and Israel.
China and India appear at the bottom of the list, with individuals from these countries reporting 3.1 and 3.0 sexual partners, respectively.
