AEK has a golden chance to put the pressure on the current league leaders, PAOK, in their game against Aris, with victory enough to put them back in first position.

Enosi faces the Thessaloniki side at “Agia Sophia” Stadium on Monday morning (AEST) in the fifth round of the Greek Super League play-offs, and it is all set up for them to gain a crucial advantage in the title race.

PAOK and Olympiacos will not play their scheduled derby this week due to their European commitments, meaning that a victory for AEK here would put them above the “black-whites” on the ladder.

That could prove to be a great psychological benefit for them and a major hindrance for PAOK as they would then head into the catchup game with Olympiacos knowing they have to beat them.

The key to all this is AEK beating Aris, an outfit that has proven quite stubborn this season and has proven especially difficult for Enosi to break.

Aris notably eliminated AEK from the Greek Cup and also secured a 3-3 draw in the last matchday of the regular season, results which they will no doubt look to for inspiration heading into this massive clash.

Panathinaikos, the other premiership contender, is set to play Lamia at “Leoforos” Stadium in a massively important fixture for their title ambitions.

This is the easiest game on paper for the “Trifylli”, making it even more crucial they record maximum points.

The Greens could even jump into first position themselves if results go their way, but their primary goal is to just win the match against a side that has given them trouble this campaign.

Lamia battled hard in both of their previous encounters with Panathinaikos, losing narrowly at home 1-2 and then earning a 2-2 draw in their prior visit to ‘Leoforos’.

Those matches will certainly give them hope as they seek their first points in the play-offs.

Giannina is in desperate need of a win as they prepare to host Asteras Tripolis on Sunday morning in the fourth round of the play-outs.

The Epirutans, currently six points away from safety, have four games to turn their season around and this fixture represents in many respects a final chance to show some fight and avoid the drop.

Kifisia (12th) battles Panetolikos (13th) at home in a massive contest that could have a major effect on each side’s relegation odds.

The home side currently sits one point above the Agrinio outfit, meaning there is more pressure on their opponents to win the match and escape from the two relegation spots.

A triumph for Kifisia would give them an enormous boost in confidence as well as a four-point cushion from the bottom two positions, meaning the contest has just as much importance for them as it does for Panetolikos.

Volos is searching for a fourth straight victory when they face Atromitos at home, which would likely be enough to guarantee the Magnesia side’s place in the top division for another season.

Panserraikos hosts OFI in the opening play-outs game on Saturday evening, with each side battling it out to challenge for the top spot within the relegation group.
